The Ins and Outs of LASIK Eye Surgery

When many hear the word surgery, they automatically think of a lot of pain and possible complications. Is that also what you think about LASIK eye surgery. Think again.

The eye is one of the most sensitive areas of the body, which possibly enhances the fact that many may consider the surgery to be somewhat risky. However, LASIK eye surgery is the safest and most commonly performed method of refractive surgery.

The amount of pain experienced is also minimal. In fact the surgery is performed whilst the patient is awake. The procedure involves the eye firstly being washed out with a solution to numb the area. Clamps are then used to hold the eyelids open in order to perform the surgery without the patient blinking. Once the numbing solution has taken effect, an incision is made in the cornea. Tissue is removed using the laser and the surgeon then closes the incision opening. It’s as easy as that, the surgery is complete. The surgery is so simple that many patients will be back working again the following day.

There are thousands of people who have undergone LASIK eye surgery, with the benefits of living life without the dependacy of glasses or contact lenses and an increase in the quality of vision the resulting factor.

As with many surgical operations, LASIK can have complications. The patient may experience double vision, dry eyes, light sensitivity and a few other problems.

The cost of having the surgery can vary for a number of reasons, such as the equipment used for the surgery, and also the testing that is carried out before the procedure. You may find that some surgeries will perform different levels of testing so make sure that you research into what is carried out within the quote of each provider. Also, opt for a surgeon that has experience with the procedure, even if they are slightly more expensive than another surgeon – you can’t put a price on your site.

Overall though, LASIK is a safe procedure that is the most commonly performed refractive surgery due to its simplicity and major benefits as a result. It is definately a subject that you should research into further if you are considering having any kind of eye surgery.

Thinking About More Business

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 8:03 pm

What does an old Russian joke have to do with getting new business?

Did you increase your business in the past 12 months? Don’t discriminate between more new clients or old clients spending more money — count the increase either way. If you didn’t, you really should be asking yourself why not.

Yes, I know — it all started with the Internet implosion. Then came terrorist attacks. Next, the global recession. And after that, a war that threatened to destabilize the worldwide political structures for peace and harmony. Who knows what’s next, but the fact is, none of these “cataclysmic” events has really mattered.

How can I say such a thing? Because for most of us, several more clients or a few additional transactions can turn a mediocre year into a great one. And large scale macro-level trauma and transition don’t really impact our micro-level ability to find that next client or do the next deal. The only place those macro-things matter is in your head, but — for good or for bad –what happens in your head tends to powerfully affect what happens in your business.

Yefim, a Latvian migr who worked for me years ago told a joke (if you can call it that) from the old Soviet Union. He said, “What’s the difference between an American and a Russian?” “The American expects things to get better, and the Russian hopes they don’t get worse.” Well, after a year or two of lackluster, even dismal, business, you’re probably getting more like the Russian: not sure if things can ever get better. And you’re questioning whether you can expend any resources to do anything about it.

When you believe the world is going to hell in a hand-basket, not taking steps to improve your business seems natural. You expect that clients and prospects will say no to even your best proposition. After a while you simply stop trying.

Thinking about more business starts with thinking such a thing is possible — nay, probable –but if you’ve read this far you still may be a believer. And if you think increasing your business is possible — despite what’s reported on the evening news — then it is time to get busy. No more excuses. Not the weather. Not the season — I don’t care if it is Summer or Christmas or Ramadan. Not even the economy.

So what’s the good news? In 1966, Richard Farina wrote a book called “Been Down So Long It Looks Like Up to Me.” Feel that way? Great, because making a difference is going to be easy. You’ve probably been dormant so long, any improvement will look simply marvelous.

Here’s the secret.

There are only three ways to grow your business: you can find new clients, you can have your clients buy from you more often, and you can have clients — old and new — buy more each time.

“You mean that’s it?”

Listen closely, grasshopper. This little formula can yield great insight into how to approach your business right away — if you let it.

Want help? Answer the following questions.

What ways are you currently using to find new clients now? Go ahead — make a list, even if it’s only in your head. Are those ways working? (No — probably not, otherwise you wouldn’t be reading this.) Are they the same ones you were using a year ago? (Shame on you — they weren’t working a year ago, why should they work better now?)

What new products or services have you introduced in the past six months to help your current clients? (You haven’t– no one’s spending any money.) Of course not, they already have all the stuff you sell they think they need.

What new combinations of products, or products and services, or subscriptions, or renewable services, or… It boggles the mind how many ways there are to increase the value of each individual purchase. How many of these new offers have you made to your prospects and clients in the past six months? (I’m not even going to wait for your answer.)

If you meditate on each of these questions like a Zen Koan — you will assuredly invent at least two — and perhaps many — new ways to increase your business.

Of course, these aren’t the only things you can do, but they are a great start.

Can’t come up with any ideas? Let your clients do the work for you — after all, it’s in their own best interests. Do a survey — call up 10 or 20 and find out what they need from you that they can’t get. Even simpler — use one of the online survey tools like http://surveymonkey.com or http://zoomerang.com.

While you’re at it, you may want to insure that your core product still makes sense. After all –clients aren’t buying it like they used to. That can only mean a few things — either you’re doing a bad job telling people why they want it, or they just don’t want it.

Both of these problems can be fixed, but it’s important to make sure you’re fixing the right one. If you fix your marketing and tell people about something no one really wants, you’re just wasting money. On the other hand, if your products really are right for the market, but you’re not communicating effectively – you might end up changing your products unnecessarily.

I hope you realize from this simple exercise how easy it is to quickly begin generating new and increased business. Just ask yourself good questions and invent some good answers. After all, that’s what thinking is.

Then take those thoughts and put a few into action.

Andes Mountains Adventure

My Andes mountains adventure started with a graveyard.

All the monuments near the first refuge weren’t for climbers without skill. This graveyard is testament to the unpredictability of high places. Chimborazo is very high. It randomly drops large rocks or pieces of glacier on you, and has weather that changes by the minute. Hiking to the second refuge, we could hear the rocks and pieces of ice falling somewhere above.

“El Refugio Edward Whymper” is a simple, unheated, hut at 16,000 feet. It’s named after the English climber who first made it to the summit of the mountain. It isn’t completely unheated. When somebody feels like carrying wood up to 5000 meters, the fireplace might raise the temperature 3 degrees.

We drank “mate de coca” a tea made of coca leaves, which are also used to make another product – one that is taken up the nose. That seemed to help. We went hiking for a short while, which was the sum total of my acclimatization. Paco cooked something, and after eating I slept for at least an hour before starting the ascent at eleven that night.

Mount Chimborazo

Mount Chimborazo is in Ecuador, about 100 miles south of the Equator. At it’s peak, it is the furthest point from the center of our planet. Earth bulges at the equator, making Mount Chimborazo even further out there than Everest. It’s the closest point to the sun on the planet, and yet still the coldest place in Ecuador.

Paco, my guide, woke me up at ten that evening. He frowned when he saw my sleeping bag, which packed up smaller than a football, and weighed a pound. My frameless 13-ounce backpack didn’t seem to impress him either. In any case, although it was below freezing in the hut, just as he said it would be, I had stayed warm – as I said I would.

Paco didn’t speak a word of English, and I was just learning Spanish. Since our whole group consisted of him and me, we had some communication problems. I thought, for example, that the “night” (a few hours) in the hut was included in the $130 fee. He thought I was a mountain climber.

Actually, I had practiced once with crampons and an ice axe on a sledding hill near my house. I climbed forty feet while people walked by with their sleds, warning their kids to stay away from me.

I think Paco was telling me he didn’t like the papery rainsuit I was using as a shell. He frowned at my homemade one-ounce ski mask. When he saw my insulating vest, a feathery piece of poly batting with a hole cut in it for my head, I just pretended not to understand what he was saying.

I hadn’t planned to climb Chimborazo with such lightweight gear, but I had come to Ecuador on a courier flight, and could bring only carry-on luggage. I had only 12 pounds in the pack to begin with, so by the time I put on all my clothes that night, the weight on my back was irrelevant. The weight of my body, however, wasn’t. Paco had to coax me up that mountain.

Glaciers Near The Equator

The glaciers start near the hut. Hiking soon became mountaineering. I put on crampons for the second time in my life. During one of my many breaks (“Demasiado” – too many, which I pretended not to understand when Paco explained in Spanish), I noticed that the thermometer I carried had bottomed out at 5 degrees fahrenheit. I wasn’t cold, but I was exhausted at times – the times when I moved. When I sat still I felt like I could run right up that mountain.

We struggled (okay, I struggled) up the ice, hiking, climbing, jumping over crevasses, until I quit at 20,000 feet. I had also quit at 19,000 feet, and at 18,000 feet. Quitting had become my routine. Lying had become Paco’s, so he told me straight-faced that the summit was just fifty feet higher. Maybe I wanted to believe him, or maybe the lack of oxygen had scrambled my brain. In any case, I started up the ice again.

We stumbled onto the summit at dawn. Or rather, I stumbled. Paco, who seemed somewhat frail down at the refuge, was in his element at 20,600 feet. Dirtbag Joe, a nineteen-year-old kid from California with ten dollars in his pocket, borrowed equipment, and my Ramen noodles in his stomach, was waiting with a smile.

The sky was a stunning blue color that you never see at lower elevations. Cotapaxi, a classic snow-covered volcano to the north, was clearly visible 70 or 80 miles away. Chimborazo’s shadow fell across forty miles of land to the west. I had never seen anything like it.

Handshakes all around, and it was time to get off the mountain. I was told you don’t want to be on Mount Chimborazo when she wakes up. She wakes up at nine a.m.

Paco was looking at his watch, and telling me to hurry. He got further and further ahead. Was he going to abandon me? When I caught up to him at the hut at nine a.m., I heard the rocks begin to fall out of the ice above as the sun warmed it. Now I understood. We really needed to get down to the refuge by nine. A thousand feet lower a photograph that mercifully doesn’t show my shaking knees ended my Andes mountains adventure.

Are There Safe Cigarettes?

Tobacco was initially used by pre-Columbian Native Americans, who smoked it in pipes and even used it for hallucinogenic purposes in shamanic rituals. Christopher Columbus was given tobacco by natives and introduced it Europe when he returned from North America.

However, tobacco did not become widely used in Europe until the middle of the 16th century, when explorers and diplomats such as France’s Jean Nicot (for whom nicotine was named) popularized its use.

Tobacco was introduced to France in 1556, Portugal in 1558, Spain in 1559, and England in 1565.

Initially, tobacco was produced for pipe smoking, chewing and snuff. Cigarettes were made in a crude, hand-rolled form since the early 1600s, but did not become popular in America until after the civil war. Cigarette sales surged with introduction of the cigarette rolling machine by James Bonsack in 1883, in a contest sponsored by tobacco company Allen and Ginter, who promised $75,000 to the first person to invent a fast cigarette-rolling machine. This facilitated industrialized production and widespread distribution of cigarettes.

Since then, nicotine addiction has become a public-health concern in virtually every nation on Earth.

Warnings about the health risks of smoking were muted until the 1950′s and 1960′s, when a series of unsuccessful lawsuits forced the issue into the public eye. Not until the 1990′s would a lawsuit be won by the plaintiff. However, the American Surgeon General first demanded that warning labels be placed on cigarette packages started in 1966.

Both the tar and nicotine in cigarettes are toxins, each its own way; and that’s without mentioning the poisonous substances such as arsenic used in the curing process. Nicotine is as addictive as heroin or cocaine, and has long-lasting effects on the brain’s dopamine systems. The “tar” which filters attempt to remove falls into four categories of substances: nitrosamines, widely held to be the most carcinogenic of all the agents in tobacco smoke; aldehydes, created by the burning of sugars and cellulose in tobacco; polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons which form in the cigarette behind the burning tip; and trace amounts of heavy metals from fertilizers used to grow the plant.

Tobacco companies were loath to admit in public that they knew the dangers posed by their product; however, in a sideways concession to tobacco foes, they produced what were advertised as “safer” filtered cigarettes.

In the 1958 a scientist working for Philip Morris went so far as to admit publicly that, “Evidence is builing up that heavy smoking contributes to lung cancer.” He cleverly suggested that this admission could be turned into a “wealth of ammunition” to attack the competion by suggesting that Philip Morris, unlike its competitors, made cigarettes with filters to screen out the toxins. In 1986 the CEO of British American Tobacco, Patrick Sheehy, had a different opinion, and wrote that, “in attempting to develop a “safe” cigarette you are, by implication, in danger of being interpreted as accepting the current product is unsafe, and this is not a position that I think we should take.”

However much tobacco executives attempted to hide the dangers of their product from the public, increasing market demand eventually forced all cigarette companies to develop some filter systems for their cigarettes. Filtered cigarettes accounted for only 1 percent of cigarette purchases in 1950, but this had soared to 87 percent by 1975.

However, the development of filtered cigarettes met two hurdles, one medical and the other a matter of personal taste. Because smokers are nicotine addicts, they will smoke until their craving for nicotine is satisfied. A filter which removes nicotine will simply prompt them to inhale more deeply or smoke more cigarettes. A filter which removes the tar components of tobacco will remove the taste and smoking sensation to which smokers have become accustomed, and consumers find such a product lacking in “flavor”. Due to compensatory behavior by smokers, the amount of toxins consumed is not significantly less than from an unfiltered cigarette, and there is no proof filtered cigarettes are less of health risk.

Still, tobacco companies persist in their efforts to develop better filters. Often they are hampered not by lack of technical knowledge but by consumer behavior. In 1975, Brown and Williamson introduced a new cigarette called Fact, with a new filter designed to selectively remove toxic compounds such a cyanide. However the product did not please consumers, and was removed from the market two years later.

An internet search for “cigarette filter patent” produces 425,000 results as manufacturers strive to outdo each over in the invention of filter materials and baffles to construct a cigarette which they claim is less toxic but still appealing to smokers.

It is difficult to make a filter which removes tar but not nicotine, and tobacco companies have now focused their attention on growing tobacco plants with a higher nicotine content, in order to satisfy smokers’ nicotine addiction with proportionately less exposure to tar. Rumors that cigarette companies “spike”their products with extra nicotine have met with public uproar, since cigarettes are sold as a natural agricultural product.

Scientists have also experiments with tobacco substitutes , with ingredients such as wood pulp, which would produce smoke flavor with less tar. Legal hurdles have stopped such projects, as they are no longer “natural” but rather an artificially-manufactured substance about which health claims are being made. Such products are treated as drugs, and subject to lengthy regulatory battles before they are allowed to be sold. For the tobacco companies, manipulating naturally-grown tobacco leaf is cheaper and more profitable in a competitive marketplace.

Since a cigarette is basically a delivery system for an addictive drug, nicotine, it is theoretically possible to produce a product which has only nicotine, without the diversion of tar. In fact, such a product exists: the nicotine patch. At its most basic level, it has exactly the same function as a cigarette. However, it has less social cachet than the packaging, rituals and paraphenalia associated with smoking: it is for people who want to wean themselves off their addiction.

Christmas Gift Ideas for Hikers

Christmas gift ideas can be hard to come by. If youre buying for a hiker, here are a few hiking gift ideas to consider.

Okay, Ill be the first one to admit publicly that buying gifts for the holidays can be a pain in derriere. When it comes right down to it, how well do you know someone and how do you know what he or she likes? Buying for kids is great because you can always peak at the letter to Santa. Unfortunately, most adults have given up writing to Santa and you really dont want to read through there other letters. Fortunately, this isnt a problem if you are buying for a hiker.

Hiking Gifts

Despite the relative simplicity of hiking, there are lots of gadgets you can give as a gift. Here are a few ideas that may sound iffy to you, but will be cherished by your hiking friend.

1. Boots The old clich is, these boots are made for walking. When it comes to hiking, the boots make the man or woman. Fortunately, you dont need to know anything about styles, sizes or brands when buying boots as a gift. Selecting hiking boots is a very personal thing, so your hiker will exchange them for their boots of choice. Dont be offended. This is par for the course with hiking. Simply figure out the price you are willing to pay and make your choice.

2. Digital Handheld Compass Yep, even hiking has gone digital. Who wouldve thunk it? Digital handheld compasses are a recent phenomenon and popular with hikers. They do the same thing as a non-digital compass, but have the advantage of beingwell, digital. The HighGear brand is solid and you can expect to pay $50 to $60.

3. Hydration Waist Packs Hikers consistently face the threat of getting dehydrated while hoofing it around Gods green earth. Hydration packs help prevent this by letting the hiker carry water comfortably. Youll have a choice of waist, shoulder and full on backpack systems. The waist packs are the best. You can expect to spend in the $30 to $45 range and Amphipod is a good brand.

4. Nomad Hiking Journals A little self-promotion here. Nomad Hiking Journals are compact writing journals that let hikers keep notes and diaries of their hikes. They can record whom they hiked with, the route, weather conditions and funny little events occurring during the hike. You can click the link at the bottom of this article and expect to pay between $10 and $25 depending on the size.

If youre looking for gifts for hikers, consider yourself lucky. The equipment tends to be inexpensive and last a very long time.

Some Things You Should Know About Massage

Most Americans know that massage therapy can help relieve stress and pain, reduce blood pressure and boost the immune system. And, more people than ever are trying massage for the first time.
Perhaps you received a gift certificate for massage. Maybe works been stressful, and youve thought about getting a massage to unwind. Or maybe youre already a fan of massage and want to try a different type of massage.

Whatever your reasons, there are some basic things you should know to get the most from your massage.

There are many terms for types of massage. The American Massage Therapy Association? (AMTA) designates the various methods as massage modalities. Ask your massage therapist what massage modality will give you the results you want.

The most popular include:

- Swedish massage: The most common type of massage, to relax and energize you.
- Deep tissue massage: For muscle damage from an injury, such as whiplash or back strain.
- Sports massage: To help prevent athletic injury, keep the body flexible and heal the body should injury occur.
- Chair massage: Massage of the upper body, while fully clothed and seated in a special portable chair.

Finding a qualified massage therapist is also important. Ask your massage therapist about his or her credentials. And remember, each massage and bodywork modality requires specialized training.

AMTA, which requires members meet education standards, recommends asking the following questions:

- Did you graduate from a program accredited by the Commission on Massage Therapy Accreditation (COMTA) or from an AMTA member school?
- Are you licensed or registered as a massage therapist in this state? Not all states license massage therapists.
- Are you a member of AMTA?
- Are you certified by the National Certification Board of Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork?
- Do you have training in any specific massage modalities?

The web has become an excellent resource to help you find qualified, accredited massage therapists in your area.

Where to buy a good Sony Laptop

If youve decided that you want a Sony laptop, then good for you some of them really are very good. Unfortunately, the good ones also tend to be dazzlingly expensive, which is why youre probably looking for ways of getting that laptop a little cheaper. Here are a few suggestions.

If you live near a Sony Store, then they are probably one of the best places to get cheap Sony laptops. Not only are you buying directly from the manufacturer, cutting out a few middlemen in between, but you will often find that they have a good selection of special offers on slightly older models and refurbished laptops unless you always need the latest leading-edge technology, youll often find that these models are perfectly good.

If theres no Sony Store around, try your local independent computer shop. These shops are often very good at giving impartial advice about all the different models available, and wont overcharge you massively like the high street and big-box computer retailers like to do. If youre lucky, you might find that they have a used or reduced Sony laptop, or know where to get one.

Another thing to try is looking online at auction sites such as eBay. Used laptops there can be very cheap indeed, and as good Sony laptops are so hard-wearing there is usually no reason not to buy them used. However, do be careful not to fall for any eBay scams when buying something as expensive as a laptop always check the description carefully, and read up on eBay works if youre ever unsure about an offer you see (use eBays own Help button). And whatever you do, never pay for laptops by Western Union wire transfer, as the moment you do that, your money is gone forever.

The Best In Dry Skin Care How Not To Look Old

Copyright 2006 David Maillie

If you have a dry skin and not too keen on having it look like a withered apple, then your only way out is to jump headlong into a dry skin care regimen. The dry skin is basically a dehydrated skin, very sensitive to the weather elements. So the dry skin care regimen is all about nourishing the skin and keeping it protected from external ravages.

Dry skin care involves getting to the roots of the problem. Apart from the intrinsically dry skin type, dryness can also be the result of taking drugs like diuretics, antispasmodics, and antihistamines. Dry skin can also result from medical conditions like hypothyroidism, dermatitis, eczema, psoriasis, seborrhea and diabetes. Excessive exposure to harsh weather elements like snow, sun and winds and the use of chemicals on the skin, Vitamin A and B deficiencies can lead to conditions of dryness too.

The essentially dry skin has a dull look about it especially around the mouth and the eyes and it feels taut and uncomfortable right after washing. Chapping and cracking are its severest symptoms.

Dry skin care primarily involves nourishing it with baby oil, gentle moisturizing creams and preferably, a non-detergent based, neutral-pH product to clean it. Dry skin needs an out-and-out cleaning but not with a commercial soap. After washing, always use a moisturizer to keep the skin looking and feeling soft and supple. Its good if you apply the moisturizer over a damp skin.

You can also use oil for hydrating your dry skin, however while massaging, take care not to stretch your skin. Apply oil profusely around the eyes, because this is the area most prone to wrinkles and crows feet.

Dry skin care demands the application of only very gentle and preferably natural beauty care products. Thus when you retire for the night, massage yourself with a homemade nourishing cream. Or you can use a natural beauty mask consisting egg, honey, olive oil and rose water to provide your skin with all the nourishments.

A warm milk bath with a few drops of almond oil added to it will soften and hydrate your skin like nothing else. Dry, cracked lips respond well to a little milk cream mixed with rose water and lime juice, while style divas swear by the raw-beetroot-application-before-the-lipstick routine. Just a dab of Vaseline afterwards ensures that your lips remain pink and pretty.

Dry skin care also involves knowing what to stay away from. Overheated rooms, beauty care treatments that use steam and sudden changes of temperatures wreck havoc on a dry skin. While stepping out in the cold, liberally douse yourself with some kind of moisturizer, and pile on the sunscreen when you go out in the sun.

Your diet too plays an important role in containing the reverses of a dry skin. While smoking and fatty, oily foods are a definite no-no, fresh fruits and vegetables, along with copious quantities of water daily, improve the quality of your skin and they have also been proven to contain anti-ageing properties. Thus with such foods in your diet, you not only remain healthy, but look also good.

There are many herbs that can be directly applied to the skin or consumed to help your condition of dryness. Thus chamomile, lavender, calendula, comfrey, tea tree oil, aloe vera and peppermint used in herbal facials are good for dry skin and borage, fennel, coltsfoot or calendula tea can be had daily for a youthful looking skin.

Dry skin care actually means pampering your skin, for you have to always keep in mind that you are dealing with something very fragile.

Healing From Car Accidents

No matter how much you try to drive carefully and responsibly, you’ll never know when accidents can happen. Car accidents are very traumatic and can leave crash survivors in shock or full of guilt, fear, nervousness, or anger. All these emotions are normal reactions to the situation. But it is better for a survivor to take a few deep breaths first, or try to count from 1 to 10 in order to calm down. This will better prepare the survivors to take stock of the accident and analyze the extent of damage.

Adventures with Hypnosis

In 1949, I had a real problem with a dental phobia. Four dentists had turned me down as a patient. I had two abscessed teeth and a mouthful of other cavities. My dental phobia was so bad that it had forced me to go to a hospital some years earlier in order to have three abscessed teeth removed while I was unconscious.

I went to a dental convention where I found the recommended dentist who did hypnosis. He couldn’t work on my teeth, but he said he thought he could help me. So, at the lunch break, I went to his room with several other dentists, and he hypnotized me with a standard induction technique. Then, he taught me a psychological trick of relaxation. If I raised my left hand whenever I felt my right hand becoming a fist, indicating tension, the dentist would stop, and I would relax my right hand, and lower my left hand.) I didn’t believe it would work, but I made an appointment with the last dentist who had turned me down and had recommended hypnosis.

For the first few minutes, I kept raising my left hand, and he stopped immediately. After that, I didn’t need to raise my left hand much at all, and he worked fast.

He pulled the two bad teeth, and drilled and filled a dozen more in one single hour and half session. I had Novocain for the bad ones, and didn’t need it for the others. Both the dentist and I were amazed at this, and he asked if I were really twins

To me, a 22-year-old engineering student, this was a genuine miracle, and I started to learn all I could about this miracle cure. I read everything I could find, from the 1700′s literature about Mesmer, Coue, etc, up to Erickson, Barber, etc.

I became an electronic engineer, and pursued this as my major career, but my avocation continued to be hypnosis, and by extension, psychology. (Much of behavior psychology is similar to hypnosis). I used it professionally, taught it in a major university to doctors, and continued to learn about it. I performed some shows, and considered a career as a stage hypnotist, but was more interested in using it for helping people, as it had helped me.

In 1979, I left electronic engineering, and turned to psychology. I went back and obtained a Doctorate in Psychology based on my education, life experience, and my doctoral dissertation. I became a successful Behaviorist Psychologist for years in private practice in Florida. I gradually converted to an Orthomolecular practice when I found that these types of therapies worked better than any talk therapy, although talk therapy is sometimes useful as well.

Hypnotic Relaxation

During this many years of study, and later career as a psychologist, I realized that what that original dentist who hypnotized me had actually done. With hypnosis, he had simply given me a new conscious tool of relaxation. Using this simple tool, I could actually change something in my unconscious called a phobia. It wasn’t really a miracle, though I had thought so at the time. Adding this knowledge to my knowledge of Pavlovian conditioning responses, I came up with what I called the Bate Relaxation Technique.

This is very simple, yet it can be very powerful – much more powerful than most realize because of its simplicity. It starts with a general hypnotic induction technique of relaxing the body muscles, starting with the toes and going up to the scalp and face. Then, in a state of muscle relaxation, ask the subject to visualize a very beautiful relaxing scene he/she is in. Describe the scene. Ask them to concentrate on how beautiful and very relaxing it is.

Then, ask the subject to memorize the feelings of relaxation and concentration they are feeling at that time. Have them put these feelings into their memory like a photograph. Then, give them a post-hypnotic suggestion that they can now recall those feeling any time they simply count to three. End the session, and have the subject stand up, take a deep breath and simply count to three.

It’s simply amazing how the shoulders often slump 2-3 inches or some other muscles that the subject usually tenses from stress relax. I describe the strange feeling as sort of a blah feeling. (As subjects stand up from the session, their normal pattern of muscle stress takes effect, and the instant relaxation is definitely experienced.)

I then tell the subject that they now have the pattern, but it up to them to use it often, several times a day, even if not needed, for the next week or so. This will set this pattern into their unconscious as a conditioned response. (Remember Pavlov’s dog?) Now, they have the same tool I got from the original dentist, but it is much more enhanced and valuable. It instantly relieves stress of any kind.

Driving a car a long distance is very stressful. My wife and I recently drove over 20 hours straight thru, with me driving about 14 of those hours. At 78 years old, that’s not usual. The secret – we both simply count to three every so often and are able to relax behind the wheel. Muscle tension is very tiring, and few are able to relax this muscle tension behind the wheel.

This relaxation technique is very useful in many ways in helping to solve psychological problems of phobias, compulsions, and even some serious physical problems. I was able to solve dozens of Asthma problems in all persons between 7 and 15 years old, and was often successful with older persons as well. (Kids in this age range are very suggestible; some adults are too cynical.)

The system is simple, but effective. First, teach the relaxation. Then, have the patient emulate a really bad asthma attack. Come on, get really bad, your throat is closing more and more. It’s getting worse and worse. When the patient really starts to become in distress, say, Now, count to three. As he gets to three, he relaxes, and says, Now, it’s gone, and you are in control.
Many years ago, I did this routine on the 14-year-old son of lifelong friends. When I was visiting them a few years ago, I walked into the store of the son, and he recognized me immediately. I was surprised as it had been over 20 years since he had seen me. He said, Do you think I could ever forget the man who cured my Asthma?
It was another great day for my ego.

There’s nothing magical or even mysterious about it. All you are doing is teaching a new trick to the unconscious mind. This trick of instant relaxation is learned as a conditioned response by repetition and use. It becomes a tool for the conscious mind to use in all types of situations to reduce stress. As everybody knows, stress ages us, diminishes the immune system, and helps to kill us.

The various forms of yoga and other meditation techniques are similar, yet different. They relieve stress of course, but are of little use in immediate stressful situations. This relaxation is immediate.

This also can be used for self-hypnosis, positive statements and visualizations.

I also used it for patients that wanted to stop smoking as a substitute for that instant craving that comes to an addicted smoker.

One idea makes a lot of people afraid of hypnosis. The idea that another person has control over them, and can make them do literally anything. Every experiment ever conducted has shown that this is simply not true. Hypnosis cannot force a person to do anything that is against his/her moral code. The unconscious mind is very protective, and is what we are working with either with hypnosis or subliminal training.

There is some possibility of indirect misuse of hypnosis. I once witnessed a hypnotist demonstrating this. He had a very attractive woman who was very hypnotizable (instantly into somnambulism by snapping his fingers). He hypnotized her, and told her to take off her clothes. She awoke instantly and was embarrassed, but had no conscious memory of why.

He then hypnotized her again, and this time, told her that she was at home in her bathroom with the door closed, and she was going to take a bath. She calmly started to take off her clothes. He stopped her before she got too far, but she was obviously going to completely strip.

It was interesting how he stopped her. He told her that someone had come into her home, and was near the bathroom door. She said, Don’t come in. I’m not dressed.

He then had her get dressed, and woke her. She had no memory of the incident.

When I was a young man, I had a girlfriend who I had sex with once or twice. And she had been hypnotized several times as well. One night I wanted sex, but she didn’t. I used the cue that hypnotized her, but to no avail. She refused, even hypnotized. So, the idea that someone can make you do something you do not want to do is false. I can testify to that personally. Our unconscious mind is very protective of us in all ways, even though some ways may be wrong.

Of course, if you work with either hypnosis or subliminal training, or virtually any type of serious psychology you have to be aware of the unconscious mind, as that entity is always what you are trying to influence.

Hypnotic Age Regression

This is a very useful tool for a psychologist, or, for that matter, any doctor of any stripe. Under even light hypnosis, it can be used to pull details from the life of the patient that he/she has forgotten consciously. (The unconscious memory has everything in it.)

There are several tricks of the trade involved. After my Relaxation Technique, I used a deepening technique that went something like this, Now, I want you to imagine and visualize yourself going down an escalator as I count to ten. One, imagine yourself stepping on and feeling the steps form under your feet. Two, as you move down, relax even more. Three, as you go down further, concentrate more and more. Four, and as you relax more, you can concentrate more. Five, this positive circle of concentration and relaxation continues as you move down.

Continue with similar repetitions thru nine, and then, Ten, step off the escalator into a room. This room is yours alone. It is only in your mind, and no one else can ever get into it. You can make it anything you want. In this room, you can do anything or visualize anything that will help you to be a better person. In this room you can remember anything you want.

Next, I would start the questioning. For example, a man came to me to try to find a lost valuable diamond engagement ring. He and his fianc had broken up, and she had returned the ring to him. He remembered taking the ring, but when he got home, he couldn’t find it at all. I did the above technique, and then started.

I said. I want to you to go back in time to the moment when she handed you the ring. Where were you and she at that time?

He replied, We were in her living room.

Alright, see yourself taking the ring. What did you do with it?

He said, I’m putting it into my small watch pocket of my jeans.

OK, now you are leaving her. What happened next?

I’m getting into my car, and driving home

Good, what happens next?

I’m going into my bedroom, and changing clothes.

Why?

I have to go to a baseball presentation dinner.

OK, what did you do with your jeans?

Oh NO! I had put them in the washer!

That was the story. He went home and found the ring stuck in the washer. (The usual story of such is that it gets caught in the U drain under a sink.) This illustrates the value of age regression as a memory aid.

Of course, it’s also useful to uncover the beginnings of phobias and compulsions. A woman came to me with a cat phobia and asthma. I did the usual as above, and with a couple of other useful techniques found the problem. One trick is to say, OK, now you are going back in time. It is your 15th birthday. You are awake in that morning. Do you have asthma?

She replied, yes. (She had earlier said on intake questioning that her asthma had started very early. I start well past that so as to get the patient used to going back.)

Ok, now you are ten years old, just waking up on your birthday. Do you have asthma now? Same answer.
OK, you are now five years old, on your birthday. Do you have asthma now? Same answer

I worked back thru 4 and 3 and 2, 1, and started back in months. I got to the ninth month, and she didn’t have asthma. Still she had no memory of anything that was related. So, I went to her tenth month, and went backwards, day to day with the same question. I got to the day when she did have asthma. Now I asked her, What happened to you during the last day that caused you to have asthma? I am going to count to three, and when I get to three, you will remember everything. One, you’re starting to remember. Two, memory is coming back. Three, you now remember everything.

She then related, I was lying on my back in a crib, and the cat jumped into the crib, and lay across my mouth. I couldn’t breathe, or call out, and I was scared. I don’t know what happened, but I think I hit the cat, and she went off me.

It was two birds with one stone. Cat phobia, and asthma caused at that point. Asthma is often a protective device used to keep oxygen in the body. Most can easily breath in but have real problems breathing out. This was her case.

Then, we get to the really interesting part. Age regression to past lives. As an agnostic, I don’t really know if the many stories I have heard from many persons are true, or something from the universal mind or what?

Probably the single most impressive story is from the man who came to me with two lifelong phobias that he had had since earliest memory. He was deathly afraid of fire and water. He thought that these phobias might be from past lives, and asked me to try to find out.

He was easily hypnotizable, and with little urging went back thru birth to the previous life. He had been a circus clown, and been burned to death in a circus fire. It was then simple to go back to a previous life to that. It seems that he had stolen a horse, and was caught. The vigilantes didn’t have a tree, so they hanged him from a bridge. The rope broke, and he drowned. Of course, it took much more time to go thru, and some suggestions from me. He was cured according to a phone call a week later.

I’ve had several such interesting cases. Another was fascinating to me. Under hypnosis, a man kept saying, All I can see is a bird. I kept after him about this bird for 10 or more minutes, but he couldn’t see much more than this bird. Finally, he said, It’s a black bird, and it’s on my shield.

I pressed him harder about his shield, and did he have a sword and a horse. He suddenly screamed, There’s blood all around me, and all over me and my horse. I’m killing people all around with my sword, and they’re trying to kill me!

I questioned him closely, and it became evident that the date was 1066 at the battle of Hastings as the Normans conquered England.

Is the story true? I cannot say with any certainty, but it was impressive.

When I gave seminars and talks on hypnosis, I usually finished with doing my Relaxation Technique, and my deepening. Then, I would say, In your room, sitting comfortably, I want you to let your mind go out of your body. Let it go out into space, and as you see earth behind you as that familiar blue and white marble, see space as almost velvety, with stars and planets being very clear and steady. It’s really beautiful out here in space. Now, you are coming to a white cloud that is getting bigger and bigger, and you are now entering it. On the other side, there is another blue marble world. As you approach, it looks like Earth, but as you get really close, you see no huge cities, but beautiful parks and lovely buildings that seem to be a part of the landscape. As you come to it, and walk about, you notice that the people are all friendly, and the animals are all friendly, and the gardens and parks all around are simply the loveliest you have ever seen. You are filled with the same sort of happiness that it seems everybody there has. You are at peace with yourself and that place.

Now, it’s time to leave, and we are going back into space again. Ahead of us is that same white cloud, and this time, as we enter it, we make a left turn, and we are now going back in time. The year is 1700 on Earth, and as we come back to Earth in that time, we are going to each go into a body in that time and place. I want you to look at your feet, and your clothes, and your surroundings, and have a sense of who you are in that body. Now, it’s time to return. We are leaving this time and place, and going back thru that white cloud, and back to that blue marble of earth, and back to that comfortable seat, and into your own body again. As I count to three backwards, you are gong to awaken, not drowsy or sleepy or affected by my voice at all, and you will remember everything you experienced.

Then, I count, Three, two, one, awake fully awake. Now, how many persons really experienced that beautiful planet?

About a third or more really did visualize it clearly. (A few were somewhat angry with me for not leaving them longer!) Then I asked, Now, how many persons experienced themselves in 1700? Surprisingly, about one third had very good and clear visualizations. One woman was indignant I had bare feet, and scratched legs, and I was a serving woman. She had a very high opinion of herself in this life obviously. Needless to say, these stories were very interesting, and varied. One woman impressed me with, I was in a dark place waiting to be born.

Of course, such stories do not prove anything. They could be products of imagination, or simply scraps of something from the unconscious or universal mind. However, or whatever they are, taken in bulk from honest persons with no known vested interest, they do prove something beyond our conscious knowledge.

An Impossible Story

Here’s a true story that is unbelievable to many people. In reading about hypnosis, I came across an article where a professional hypnotist had claimed that he had been able to increase a woman’s breast size using hypnosis. I dismissed that claim until in 1978; I read an article by Dr Ted X. Barber in the Journal of Clinical Hypnosis about hypnotic phenomena. This article discussed many different hypnotic phenomena, including several experiments at several different colleges that had all done a similar experiment. As I recall (at this much later date), each college used 8-12 women, all of whom were somewhat flat chested, and all wanted larger breasts.

All were carefully measured, above and below the actual breasts, and across them at the nipples. Once a week for 12 weeks, they were hypnotized as a group, and told to visualize things like, See yourself in a mirror naked with larger breasts. Admire your larger breasts. See how good they look, and how good you feel with them. Now, see yourself dressed in a very becoming dress, and how well it looks on you with your new breasts. It increases your self-confidence as well.

These comments were repeated several times. As I recall, the average for all of the various experiments was that 80% actually increased their breast size, and the average increase was 2.1 inches.

Let’s take another deeper look at this. The average success rate for losing weight by hypnosis is considered to be less than 65%. In other less reported breast size experiments, DECREASING breast size in women with overly large breasts, the success rate was negligible.

In addition, this suggestion is specific – add body cells to a certain part of the body only! We have no knowledge if actual mammary cells were added, or only fat cells, but still!!!

I’ve won two bets from other psychologists that this story was published in a reputable scientific journal. I made a hypnosis tape specifically for breast enlargement, and heard for a few of the women who purchased it that it did indeed work for them. Unfortunately, few people report either success or failure.

Why doesn’t hypnosis work better on the lesser task of losing weight, or losing breast weight? The explanation is difficult, but in my experience the social advantage to women of large breasts inhibits the unconscious from losing this advantage. Some women are punishing their selves (or their husbands) by being fat. (Sort of love me for me, not for my body). Motives of the unconscious mind are often murky and difficult for our conscious minds to understand. The computer analogy of garbage in – garbage out applies here.

Harmful Unconscious Ideas

The unconscious mind can be a force for good or bad. It apparently doesn’t discriminate – again like a computer. If a virus gets in, it can distort many other programs in different ways.

Let’s examine a very illustrative case. A woman brought in her 8 year old boy for hypnosis for bedwetting. I did the usual direct suggestion, and told her to keep him off all milk products for at least a week.

Two days later, she and her son were back. No success. This time, I did age regression hypnosis. He went back (with a little urging) to when he was 4. He was in bed almost asleep when he heard someone trying to get in his window. He was so scared that he wet himself, and cried out. The burglar (real or imagined) left. The unconscious logic to this boy – urination protects from intruders in night. It wasn’t difficult to remove this logic (computer virus), and his mother said that he hadn’t wet again a few months later.

The great master of hypnotic therapy, Milton Erickson, once had an almost comic situation that he solved in a unique way. It seems that a recently married couple came to him because each was a bed wetter. On their honeymoon, the bed was wet each morning, and each thought the other was very thoughtful in not mentioning it. After a few days, they each confessed and came to Erickson.

He made them agree to do exactly what he said, and then told them to kneel on the bed when they were ready for sleep and each had to urinate, and then sleep in it. They came back several days later, and they had kept their word. He then told them, Since you did as I told you, tonight you can go to bed normally without the urination, and come back tomorrow. The next day, they said the bed was dry in the morning, so he allowed them another dry night. Then another, and then he declared them cured.

These two stories illustrate the immense power of the unconscious for both good and bad. One of the major jobs of the unconscious mind is to protect the physical body (home of the unconscious mind) from harm. If a threat is perceived whether real or imaginary, it goes into action, even if the action may be harmful to itself.

Escaping from Drug Addiction through Professionally-Assisted Withdrawal

Check out the statistics; almost 12 percent of young Americans aged 18 years old are now addicted to illicit drugs and approximately 27 million Americans use illicit drugs regularly. Results of the 2001 National Household Survey on Drug Abuse and Addiction revealed that while millions of Americans habitually smoke pot, drink alcohol, snort cocaine, and swallow prescription drugs, many drug users do not recognize that they have a drug addiction problem. The figure of those in denial about their drug addiction is estimated at more than 4.6 million.

Things to Consider Before Being a Baseball Coach

Thus you decided to become a trainer of baseball, perhaps because your child had a team but nobody was been willing to intensify to give particular lessons or perhaps you have just a passion to work in this field. That which it reason is really is not the important factor. Each trainer wants a team of profit and each player wants the same thing but this all to find them below the total effectiveness of the team as a whole, including the trainer. A trainer is a professor and as any good professor should always seek manners to you of improving. These are the things that you want to divide with your team. You cannot even have much, if any experiment to give particular lessons but to familiarize themselves just with the foundations is a great manner of starting.

Adding Personal Touches to Your Wedding

A perfect wedding isnt only beautiful, its personal. Its got carefully selected details that are meaningful to you and your fianc. Here are some very simple ways to add your own subtle, unique touches to your ceremony and reception:

Write your own wedding vows. It doesnt have to read like poetry; the important thing is that it comes from your own heart. Print it out on an index card and keep it handy during the ceremony.
Compile a CD with songs that symbolize your relationship or how it evolved. Play this during your reception or even burn a copy and distribute as souvenirs. Insert a small piece of paper explaining why you chose those songs.
Instead of tossing your bouquet, present it to your mother (or a dear friend or mentor) during your reception. You can also have an additional bouquet made for your groom to present his mother at the same time.
Guests often have free time on their hands during their reception. In the center of the table, place several pens and small pieces of paper in a pretty basket. Ask them to write their wishes, prayers, or advice for you and your fianc. Compile in a scrapbook.
Most wedding reception programs revolve around the couple: friends give speeches. Do something for the guests. Make a video of you and your fianc talking about the people whove taught you what true love means. Mention friends whove demonstrated real loyalty, or family members who made great sacrifices for you. Intersperse your video with their photos. This is your chance to say thank you to all of them.
If you have a close friend or family member who passed away, make him or her part of the occasion by inserting a small photo in your bouquet, or lighting a tribute candle at the church ceremony.
If you have ethnic roots, incorporate a marriage ritual from your culture into your ceremony or perform it during your reception.
Wear an heirloom. For example, you can use your grandmothers veil, or wear a locket that belongs to your mother. This is an excellent way of creating a sense of continuity between generations, celebrating your own family even as you go on to begin your own.
Prepare an audio-video presentation that will be played during the last dance of the bride with the father. This can be just a simple montage of childhood photos. A guaranteed tear-jerker!
If you have kids, help them feel like theyre part of the new family by asking them to stand next to you as you say your vows.
Add little elements that say something about your relationship as a couple. For example, if youre giving away picture frames, insert a poem that you wrote or a copy of your wedding vows. If you met at a beach (and would rather not have a beach-themed wedding) incorporate shells into your table centerpiece.

Are You Getting The Right Values For Your Money

Filed under: Uncategorized — Tags: — admin @ 10:14 pm

How you spend and manage money is a tangible way to measure your values.

1. Are you able to keep the promises that you make?

When you borrow money you are making a promise to the person or financial institution that you borrow from to pay the money back. Is it more important to keep your promises to your friends and family who probably won’t legally make you pay the money back or is it more important to pay the financial institution that can ruin your credit score and will more likely use legal options. Perhaps you honor all of your obligations in an equal fashion, either trying your best to keep your promises or breaking your word.

2. How much money do you give back to others?

There is usually a correlation between the percentage of your money that you give to others who are less fortunate and the amount of time that a person volunteers to help others. The percentage of money that you give also will give you an idea of how self centered that you are. If you do not give a large percentage of money it does not make you a bad or a mean person, it just may be time to reflect upon what you truly believe in.

3. Are you a spender or a saver?

This is an area where moderation is probably the best thing to strive for. People who never have two nickels to rub together are living in the moment with no sense of what the future will bring. They are more likely to live the rest of their lives this way by making decisions with out properly measuring the potential future impact. Many adults with ADD are prone to these impulsive decisions and need to pay special attention before making any big decision. People who save every penny never truly live in the moment and deny themselves of the little joys of life.

The most important thing that you should take from this article is that the way you mange your money often tells a lot more about your values than what you say or what you tell yourself that you believe. How you spend your money is physical proof of your values. The good news is that you can change your habits with money to reflect the values that you want to have.

Watching Out For The Consumer: The VIPPS Program

Filed under: Uncategorized — Tags: — admin @ 8:06 pm

The Internet is not the sort of place that is easy to regulate. In fact, some people believe attempting to regulate the Internet is downright impossible. However, various industries and businesses that have a presence on the Internet have established organizations and protocols to help them self-police their activities. For example, the casino industry has the Kahnawake Gaming Commission and eCOGRA, which regulate and accredit online casinos and gambling establishments, and whose seals have been taken as a sign of being a reputable, legitimate online gambling operation. For those who wish to tell a reputable online drug store from the chaff, there is an equivalent organization.

Fish Oil – Its Health Benefits & Risks

Filed under: Uncategorized — Tags: — admin @ 6:14 pm

As the name implies, fish oil.is oil that is removed from the tissues of oily fish and is often recommended as part of a healthy diet program. Many nutritionists recommend that individuals each fish at least once a week, but emphasis must be placed on the importance of avoiding fish that contain certain harmful contaminants. In avoiding predatory fish, such as sharks and others, individuals will prevent the consumption of unhealthy substances which can accumulate due to the fishs predatory lifestyle.

The benefits of fish oil are thought to be many, including a number of experts who believe that its consumption can help to regulate cholesterol. This problem affects many individuals and, if left untreated, can lead to more serious complications. The liver of fish, however, may contain dangerous levels of Vitamin A.

According to the American Heart Association, daily consumption of the proper amount of fish oil can be beneficial for patients suffering from coronary heart disease. In addition, the United States National Institute of Health recommends fish oil for the prevention of cardiovascular disease and high blood pressure. Once again, the institute reiterates the fact that high levels of omega-3 fatty acid intake may increase the risk of dangerous side effects, including a stroke.

In September 2005, Louisiana State University conducted a study that resulted in findings to support a theory that fish oil may prevent the brain from developing cognitive problems that are associated with Alzheimers Disease. This illness, which is common among the elderly, causes an individual to gradually lose his/her memory.

Apart from consuming fish on a daily basis, fish oil is available as dietary supplements and can may be purchased at many locations. In certain cases, fish oil may require a doctors prescription if the product is of pharmaceutical quality. It is important that individuals read the label and/or instructions carefully before using any medication and/or dietary supplement, including fish oil. It is also equally important that individuals inform their doctor of any current health problems and/or medications for which they are currently taking.

The information contained herein should not be used in place of, or in conjunction with, a doctors recommendation . Prior to beginning any treatment regimen, including one that involves the use of fish oil, an individual who develops an illness of any type should consult a licensed physician for proper diagnosis and treatment.

The Lapel Pin: The Real Story

Filed under: Uncategorized — Tags: — admin @ 4:01 pm

As the name suggests, a lapel pin is a pin worn on your lapel. There are many types of lapel pins that are suitable according to the design that you want it to have. The design is only limited by your imagination. They can be custom made with your company logo, emblem or any other design that you may want. Lapel pins make exceptional promotional products because they look great, are created quickly, and are very affordable.

You can buy ready lapel pins or get them customized according to your needs. Custom lapel pins can be made for any business, organization or school and are perfect for fundraisers, trade shows and promotions. When running competitions, events or contests, giving out lapel pins to participants or fans makes the event that much more memorable. A handcrafted lapel pin can also be an excellent gift.

For Businesses

A well-made lapel pin looks great on the employees of both small firms and big corporations. A single logo or message embodied in a lapel pin strengthens the corporate spirit and adds to a company’s confidence and commitment. Businesses can use custom lapel pins to promote their business services, commemorate a special event or new product launch. They can use them as recognition for a valued employee or as a giveaway to promote their company. You can make quite a hit with trade show and convention visitors by giving out a lapel pin instead of a business card!

For Groups and Organizations

You can easily recognize the members and associates of prominent or public organizations anywhere, thanks to the unique lapel pin that they wear. The more people that see the participants wearing special lapel pins, the more recognition and education you will provide for your group. Enthusiastic supporters may wear it if they get it under the right circumstances, but it is probably best if you don’t think of lapel pins as a source of income!

For Teams

Custom lapel pins are a unique way to create sports memorability that will last a lifetime. Many people collect and trade team lapel pins with a fervor usually reserved for rookie baseball cards. The more popular team pins to trade are sometimes even traded two pins or three pins or more for that one highly prized team lapel pin!

A few of the more popular lapel pin types are:

Cloisonn

No matter what your use, cloisonn is an elegant, durable and affordable option for a custom made lapel pin. Cloisonn lapel pins have a jewelry-like finish and the highest alleged value among other pins. A cloisonn pin has a more “retro” look, and therefore may be more appealing to collectors than other types of lapel pins.

With a cloisonn lapel pin you are carrying on an ancient artistic tradition. The cloisonn technique can be traced back to 13th century B.C. in ancient Japan. However it was the Chinese that really took over this art form by creating beautiful vases and other artifacts. A cloisonn lapel pin is actually just a modern interpretation of this ancient and beautiful art.

Most true cloisonn lapel pins today are made on a copper base, with enamel colors individually mixed. Due to their more detailed manufacturing process, cloisonn also lends itself to a more dressy or jeweled style of lapel pin. For example, you can consider a cloisonn lapel pin if the design you are looking for happens to include a stone setting.

Die-struck

This lapel pin is most popular as a two tone metal with no color. This lapel pin is highly recommended for its beauty and where colors are distracting and a plainer look is desired.

Die-struck (soft enamel)

Most popular for wanting to stay with a thick sturdy pin but needing to have a full range of colors to choose from. This type of lapel pin is recommended as a less expensive approach to the cloisonn lapel pin.

Photographic Pins

Offers the highest degree of detail achieved in a lapel pin. This process allows for pictures or photographs to be transferred to a lapel pin. If you have artwork that has blended colors this is the only process for you.

Silk Screen

Silk screen lapel pins will produce an exact replica of the artwork you choose to reproduce on your lapel pin. When the silk screen process is complete you will have a beautiful lapel pin. You can use silk screened lapel pins for so many things too: parties, corporate events, sports teams, school awards and more! If you have artwork that requires a lot of detail, or if you need solid colors for your text on your pin without moving to a larger size, this is a good choice.

Photo-Etched Pins

Photo-etched pins are known as the most economical lapel pin type. They can incorporate a full range of colors needed. A photo-etched lapel pin also allows for more detail and intricate designs. This type is a favorite for saving on cost and great for a give away or lapel pin trading!

In Conclusion

In today’s marketplace, a lapel pin makes sense as a low cost and high-perceived value promotional item. It is worn, and talked about. When considering how to invest your marketing dollars, take a long, hard look at lapel pins.

The purpose of herpes support groups is to help you deal with the psychological aspect of herpes and provide information about treatments and research. People often write to me for support. They either feel ashamed, helpless, and dirty or just want the pain to go away. I do everything I can in my book Herpes Wise and on my website to tell people how to alleviate the physical pain, but Im fully aware that I cannot provide psychological pain relief to all of my readers. Thats why I feel local herpes support groups are important.

The International Herpes Alliance defines the role of a support group as an entity that can provide medical advice, refer patients to clinics and doctors and help people pass through different emotional stages. They say that for most people, genital herpes is a psychological disease, not a physical one. I must agree with that. People are afraid of herpes and often fear rejection. Some people just deny being affected by herpes. These are the people who dont disclose they have herpes to their new partners. Deep inside, they often feel dirty and ugly and lack self-esteem. Going to a herpes support group will help them express themselves and build confidence, eventually breaking the isolation that they confine themselves in.

People usually feel very anxious at the beginning. Is this the end of my sex life? Is there a cure? How do I get rid of it? These are all very common questions. Talking about it freely and no longer feeling lonely will release the pressure. Some people will talk a lot about it. I am one of them. Others will only speak to a few people. Getting support and staying well informed is the first step toward empowerment. People eventually learn to adapt and control herpes or at least not let it control them.

If you feel very anxious, ashamed or dirty you may want to participate in a local herpes support group. There are several forums online. Online support groups are a good place to start. People can learn to talk about herpes, share personal experience and speak with others who are already in control of herpes. Seeing that other people get on with their lives relieves part of the anxiety.

Offline support groups can offer human face-to-face contact. That is essential for people who feel ashamed and tend to withdraw into themselves. Going to a local support group, meeting people, and shaking hands with them, may be an important step toward self-acceptance and love.

I feel that taking care of the physical part of the disease is like treating 20% of the pain with painkillers. Doctors usually dont provide psychological support for people who are diagnosed with herpes. Statistics confirm that most people are left dissatisfied by their doctors appointment. Herpes Support groups can provide the friendly environment that a doctor cant. However, they cannot change the fear of herpes that is rampantly growing in our society.

Herpes can be controlled and doesnt have the power to ruin our love or sex lives. We do. If we accept herpes, then maybe we can help people understand that it is not that bad to have it. We can promote healthier ways to respond to STDs in general.

You can find a list of local herpes support groups on my website.
