Space Tourism and the Airline Industry

People always had the dream to reach for the sky, to fly like birds do.springs-homes-for-sale-clean-and-tidy’>do. Since the dawn of time, there were many plans and efforts implemented in order to achieve this. However, it wasn’t until 1903, with the Wright brothers, that man finally succeeded into reaching for the sky, and flying. Ever since, flight developed rapidly, taking huge steps at small amounts of time, until its present form, today.Nowadays there are hundreds of airlines in the world, specialising in different segments of the market, a big part of them into carrying passengers and cargo. The passenger-carrying sector has seen a large increase over the past 30-40 years increasing in volumes that no one could imagine. However over the last decade or so, the airline sector seems to be stagnant.

My Favourite Hobby: Snow Boarding

Since moving into the suburbs, I have developed a new hobby: snow boarding. Snow boarding is great fun, and the reason I got started is because I used to go surfing when I lived by the beach, and when I moved away from the coast I had to find something new to satisfy my fix for extreme, white-knuckle sport. When I moved to my new college, everyone was talking about snow boarding, and a lot of my peers considered snow boarding an excellent hobby. When they asked if I wanted to attend, I was more than happy to come along and take part.

The Main Reasons Why You Probably Dont Have A Record Deal, Yet!

1. Skills: You can get mad and storm off. You can get pissed and start to cry. You can get angry enough to toss a pitcher of water in the faces of the audition panelist. But no matter how heated you may get, nothing will change that fact that you might not be as talented as you think. All your life your family and friends have said, “Wow! Youre really talented,” and it has started to go to your head. You could very well be the next J-Lo or Nelly, at least according to your peeps, but if no one outside of your support network has ever heard of you, you might be in for a rude awakening. The best way to test your talent is to let other people critique it for you. Believe me, a perfect stranger will tell you exactly what others have been afraid to tell you all your life, you suck! On the other hand, the opposite may apply. If you got the got skills, strangers will let you know with enthusiasm. Exposure, exposure, and more exposure is the key to measuring your talent. Whether its rapping or singing, or a little of both, you gotta get out there and be seen and heard. Take every opportunity to perform, big or small, and show the musical world what you have to offer. In addition, I suggest you obtain a written evaluation of your talent from a reputable music industry professional, and leave the rest up to luck.

2. Game Plan: Just like a football team has to practice in order to win, so do you. At the beginning of training camp, as the players arrive to the first practice, each player is handed a playbook. This play book is a detailed plan of action to guide the team to its ultimate goal, success. Your play book doesn’t have to be quite as elaborate as the NFL’s, just a simple pencil and pad will do. The entire concept of a game plan is to map out where it is you want to be, and how youre gonna get there. Start with the end product (the goal) and then work your way backwards. List all of the steps it may take to reach your goal, then right them down in reverse order. Now, you have created a map of your game plan, review it and make changes if necessary. Then fold it up and tuck into your wallet, for easy access, this way you can constantly remind yourself of were your going and cross off where you’ve been.

3. Product: Face it, you wouldn’t be too impressive of a plumber if you didn’t own an adjustable wrench, and you certainly wouldn’t be much of a clown without the funny make-up. So what makes you think you’d even have a snowball’s chance in hell of succeeding in the music business, if didn’t have a demo. Very few people have ever gotten a record deal by bum rushing a record executive at a night club or mall; even less have gotten a deal via telepathy. Being that fate is not on your side, get off the couch, put down the PlayStation and head out to the nearest recording studio and record a demo. You can usually find a good recording studio listed in the Yellow Pages, trade magazines, or on the Internet. Most if not all recording studios have staff producers that can help you develop your sound. Once the recording process has been completed, its time to put together a press kit. Start off by putting three of your best songs on a CD; make sure that the label has your name, the song titles, and contact number in plan view. Next, you’ll need a recent photo of yourself, or group, with your contact information written on the bottom. Lastly, you’ll need an artist biography (resume) that highlights any detailed information about yourself, including who you are, where youre from, and where you want to go. Also include any press write-ups or articles that may showcase your achievements. Once you have gathered all of these items, stick them into a nice little package. Make sure your package is professional and unique enough to set you apart from everyone else.

Learn About Wholesale Distribution Companies

Filed under: Uncategorized — Tags: — admin @ 7:00 am

Whole sale distribution companies have proliferated over the last few years. The main reason attributable is the expansion of the online marketing and internet. The internet opened up new opportunities for large scale marketing of a variety of consumer and other products without any worries of owning and maintaining a physical store or sales force.

The demand for the various fast moving products from a cross section of internet marketing community has triggered the birth of many whole sale distribution companies offering products at varying and competitive discounts to be resold to the online consumers.

Whole sale distribution companies though have mushroomed in the recent past the fact remains that few of them are genuine whole sale companies and the rest being simple middlemen. The chain of such companies operating today are benefited of varying discounts, and the ultimate internet entrepreneur is devoid of the product for the genuine whole sale price.

Whole sale companies that are genuine and established exhibits reservations for supplying to small volume internet operators that leads to the above mentioned situation. Further the inability of the back end supplier somewhere in chain to supply the article leaves you in the lurch with the only gain of a bunch of unsatisfied and angry customers.

The unhealthy middlemen chaining ultimately leaves very less margin for the tail ender. One should not be lured by the catchy advertisements one sees on the whole sale distribution and its merits. You are well advised to have a pragmatic approach and objective assessment in respect of such lucrative offers irrespective of the fact whether you are a prospective internet entrepreneur or a an enthusiastic consumer.

However, there are still a lot of wholesale companies on the internet where you can get great products at a great discount. But as with everyhting these days: you have to be careful and make sure you are not being scammed.

Sports Cars for Sale

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 12:14 am

Sports cars are available for sale through dealers and auctions, and on the Internet. Auctions often advertise bargain prices, which they call wholesale rates. Many such prices are bait to attract unsuspecting customers, who end up paying extras like taxes, money for the fuel already in the car, valet charges and more. Therefore, it is better to exercise a little caution before going in for such ‘deals.’ You can help yourself by checking out the auction company’s credibility, making inquiries about the car’s price at other places, examining the car for defects, finalizing a budget for yourself, and familiarizing yourself with the auction procedure by attending other auctions.

If you choose to buy from a dealer you must conduct some research prior to visiting the showroom. Find out about the car, other dealers who may be offering a better price, and other factors. Test-drive the car before you decide to buy it. Do not discuss your finances with the dealer; it would suffice to inform him how much you are willing to pay. Take advantage of finance schemes and make sure to get details of extras that come with the car, such as free gifts or warranties. Once you reach the price that you are comfortable with, don’t bargain further in the hope of a better offer.

Many sports cars are bought and sold on the Internet these days. Websites feature attractive specs, pictures and reviews of sports cars to attract customers. Shortlist advertisements give complete details about the car, mode of payment, conditions of sale and other information. Avoid advertisements that are vague on details. Examine the seller’s record on the site; if possible, speak to one of his previous customers. Try to arrange for a test drive and a viewing of the car before you pay for it.

These are just a few important pointers that will help you make a good purchase, so that you can really enjoy your newly purchased sports car.

The great Giro dItalia

Inspired by the Tour de France, the Giro dItalia is a bicycle race frequently hosted at the Passo dello Stelvio, which is a mountain pass. The race takes 3 weeks to be completed.

The first Giro dItalia race took place in 1909 in Milan, it was composed by 8 stages and a total of 2448km in length, and the winner was Luigi Ganna from Italy. Since then, only 3 competitors have won the cycling race more than one time, these are: Alfredo Binda, Fausto Coppi both from Italy and Eddy Merckx from Belgium.

A curious fact about Alfredo Binda is that due to his potential and incredible scores, many people thought it was better for him to be out of the competition, but in 1933 he won again.

The Giro dItalia is considered one of the three Grand Tours and it became very popular because of the scenery where it is held. The Passo delle Stelvio is the highest pass in Italy situated in the Alps Retiche and it is part of the European history.

For 2006 the Giro dItalia will have a total of 3.526,2 km in length and a total of 21 stages. The race will take place from May 6th to May 28th. The first stage will be held at the Belgium lands during the first days. Also, the competition has some kilometers that will be run in Austria and Switzerland.

Cycling fever is running on the streets and many fans are just waiting the next Giro dItalia, one of the most awaited cycling competitions in the world.

Avoiding Closing Costs When Buying a Home

Filed under: Uncategorized — Tags: — admin @ 6:04 pm

Most homebuyers especially those doing it for the first time are faced with a tough challenge when it comes to closing costs. Enough consumers who have saved for many years may not have enough available funds to cover fees related to a major real estate transaction. But there are ways to at least minimize the costs, and there are several strategies for buying without incurring any immediate closing costs.

With excellent credit you may qualify for loans over and above the price of the property youre buying. And if that happens, you can cover your closing costs with the extra funds you borrow. For example, you might be able to qualify for a loan of 107 percent of the selling price, enough funds to pay for the house plus all of your closing costs. If the price of the home you intend to buy is $200,000 and you borrow $214,000, the first $200,000 covers the house and down payment, and the rest pays your closing fees. Because the lender considers you a low risk borrower thanks to your high credit rating, they see the bigger loan as good business for themselves, while it offers great convenience for you.

Another common way to avoid closing costs is by using a 80/20 or piggyback loan. This type of loan is actually two loans packaged together. One of the loans works in a conventional way, and is for 80% of the purchase price. The 2nd part of the loan is a smaller 20 % loan that is used to cover the down payment. So in reality, the lender is letting you borrow your 20% down payment. You can expect to pay higher rates on the down payment portion of the loan, but you get to buy a house with essentially zero down.

Sometimes a seller will offer owner financing and also pay your closing costs, to help you close a transaction. Or you can buy from your landlord and use a lease purchase contract. The way those work is that the landlord/seller lets you apply monthly lease payments toward the purchase price until enough money has changed hands to compensate for the down payment. So you can avoid the biggest closing cost of all, by gradually using monthly rent to come up with your down payment.

If you are self-employed, be sure to investigate whether or not you qualify for special loans that are intended to help people buy houses. Some apply to those who are veterans of military service, and they offer loans with little or no down payments and reductions in other closing costs. Other loans are created by the government to assist lower income families; and there are even programs managed through various non-profit organizations that fund grants to help consumers buy homes. If you find a loan that fits your circumstances, dont hesitate to apply for it sometimes special grants and loan funds are budgeted and dispersed on a first come, first served basis and then they run out quickly.

Writing For Fun And Profit

Every writer dreams of the day when they can profit from their writing. While income opportunities abound for writers, each method has drawbacks.

Newspaper and magazine reporters can make a good living but their subject matter is often closely regulated and directed. Corporate writing can be even more lucrative but even more tightly controlled. Freelance writing offers more freedom but is also more uncertain. Publishing books is even more uncertain. So what is a writer to do?

Forget all those old-school writing methods and focus on the Internet. Don’t write for anyone but yourself. You really can profit from writing only about what interests you. Don’t worry about the market or the editors. Write for yourself. Not only will it be more fun and rewarding for your soul but for your checking account as well.

I am going to share an easy (and cheap) 10-step formula that can help you start your own writing business today, but first I want to share one important fact.

This is not a get-rich-quick scheme. It will take some time to earn, perhaps as long as three months to begin turning a profit, but if you keep working at it you should see your income grow exponentially each month and you should be able to count on that income and know what you have to do to increase it. You will have total control over your income and that is very powerful.

1. Create a blog account at one of the free blogging sites available online (we used to use http://Blogger.com but there are many other good options). This will serve as your Internet base. It really is the cheapest and easiest way to get online today. Yes, you could create a free web site at one out of the many available, but blogs are more attractive to the search engines. Plus they offer you the ability to personalize it, but most of your energy will be spent on content which is the king of the Internet and the real reason you want an Internet presence.

2. Now sign up for a free ClickBank affiliate account which will give you immediate access to something to sell.

3. Sign up for a contextual or pay-per-click advertiser such as Google, Yahoo, Revenue Pilot, or SearchFeed and you’ll start earning from visitors as well as customers.

4. Develop your blog. Make 10 your immediate goal then work your way up to 25, 50 and 100 and so on. Your entries can be your opinions, thoughts, or ramblings; poems or short stories; or articles.

5. Promote your blog through article marketing, link development and submitting your blog feed. I would suggest your primarily focus on article marketing as if offers the ability to not only develop links but also delivers traffic plus as a writer it is easy for you to create articles or use a selection of the material you’ve already created for your blog.

Yes, it really is that simple and while you can later grow by buying your own domain name (or names) and publishing your blog on your own site you do not need (and likely should avoid) investing money in expensive tools

Getting started on the web can be free (as you see above) or inexpensive if you concentrate on what you really need. The simple truth is that you don’t need a lot of fancy, expensive tools and programs. In the long run a domain name is a good investment. A domain name will cost you between $5 and $10 a year depending on whether you go .com or .info (or one of the many other options available). You don’t need to find a web host or create a site. Simply point the domain at your blog for now and continue with the development and promotion of your blog. The advantage of owning your own domain name is simply that later when you have the money, time, and knowledge to develop your web site that domain name will already exist and have filtered through the search engines. It also offers some marketing advantages that a free blog cannot.

At some point you may decide you want more flexibility and control than a free blog can offer and that is when you will want to run your own site. You can find a good web host for as little as $5 a month and shouldn’t pay more than $20 a month for a reputable host that offers all the tools and utilities you might need for your current site–including blog software. Maybe down the line you’ll need to upgrade but by then you’ll know your income and your needs.

Really the only other regular expense that you might consider to make your Internet business complete would be a mailing list tool. You can do this for just $20 a month and it will be worth every penny for sales, customer service, and promotion. But this is not necessary to start out and you may decide that it isn’t important to your efforts so you can skip it entirely.

Once you have your blog set up and monetized (by offering ClickBank products, advertising, and/or selling text links) then you are in a position to begin profiting from your writing. The way to profit it to increase your traffic so you need to get serious about your article marketing efforts because each article you distribute will generate immediate traffic and create back links for search engine optimization. Also you need to continue to grow your blog by adding fresh content regularly. This will create repeat visitors as well as bring the search engines back again and again. Simply publishing new articles and new blog entries each week will increase your traffic. The more articles and entries you create — the more traffic you will generate.

Once you have found your rhythm with your existing blog you may well decide to branch out and create a second blog on a different or related topic. Now you should be able to work even faster because you are more experienced but likely more motivated as well because you can see just how rewarding it can be to write for fun and profit.

What Jay Abraham And Napoleon Hill Taught Me About ‘Wealth Attraction’

This article is a little different from some of the previous ones Ive written about success principles.

Lets go back to when I was first starting out as an entrepreneur. In fact, I wasnt even an entrepreneur yet. I was trying to become one.

Id been listening to tapes of Napoleon Hills Your Right To Be Rich seminarover and over and over. I listened day and night.

As soon as I opened my eyes in the morning? Napoleon Hill.

During the day? Napoleon Hill.

While I slept? Napoleon Hill!

It didnt matter to me that Id listened to it 51020 times in a row. And this wasnt a 1-hour CD either. It was 14 hours of only Napoleon Hill!

Imagine what thats like: wanting to succeed so badly that youd be willing to listen to the same talk every day until you made a difference.

Amazing.

I completely saturated my consciousness with Dr. Hills message.

After a few weeks, I reached a state where I no longer needed a motivational shot in the arm; I now had within me an overwhelming desire to take ACTION.

Only there was a problem:

I had a ROADBLOCK in my life.

My roadblock was that I had this wealth of information around me; tons of personal development books, cds and tape setsyet I didnt know exactly what I should be doing.

I was motivated to take action but I had no idea what action to take.

I didnt know how to convert ideas into dollars.

I was stuck.

I remember sitting at my desk, looking at all these titles by Anthony Robbins, Brian Tracy, Mark Victor Hansen, Harv Eker, Robert Allen and so many others. This wealth of knowledge and wisdom surrounded me and I didnt have a clue what to do with it all.

All I could do was ask out loudWHAT DO I DO? WHAT DO I DO NEXT?

Let me tell you: when you ask the right questions, youll get the right answers.

The next thing I did was I pulled out a tape set by Jay Abraham called Your Secret Wealth and started listening to it..

On the tapes, Jay spoke about Seeing Opportunities Around You.

Opportunity is everywhere and there are SO MANY different ways to make money.
You just have to be able to recognize them.

So I started trying to see opportunity. I looked for it everywhere I went.

What was the value of things around me?

And was I perceiving a greater or lesser value in them than other people?

Training my mind to perceive opportunity opened my awareness and I was then able to see opportunities where I never would have seen them before.

In fact, I went on to become a PowerSeller on eBay for 2 years because of this. And I didnt even start out with any merchandise!

That said, what Im going to share with you now is a simple technique you can implement immediately to make extra money for yourself.

However, this technique is so simple and easy to put into practice that theres a good chance you will take it too lightly. That youll say, thats not a big deal. I know that already.

This would actually be a mistake on your part because then you wont reap the rewards either.

Ok, are you ready for an exercise that is guaranteed to quickly and easily bring you more money in your life?

Heres what you do:

Up to 15 times each day, I want you to ask (out loud): How Can I Make Money?

Thats it.

Dont ask 15 times in a row like you had to when you were caught chewing gum in school.

Ask once at a time, throughout the day, with all your attention and with sincerity:

How Can I Make Money?

Then Listen.

Listen, because the answer will come to you.

And so will the money!

Have a Great Day and Lets Make This Your Year!

Aside from lifting weights, these gym rats also religiously follow a low-carbohydrate, high-protein diet prepared by their personal trainers and sports nutritionists. Each fitness gym promotes various fitness fads and routines from yoga, pilates, core fitness ball method, tae-bo, pole and belly dancing, and a host of other exercises. Still, the gym members are carefully taught that these exercises can only fully benefit them if they also follow a well-prepared diet. 10 Tips for Easy Fundraising with Memorial Bricks

So, youre looking for a fundraising project for a school, sports team or construction project and youre thinking about engraved bricks. Brick fundraising is pretty simple, but what are the pitfalls?

We talked to Larry Cannon (www.bricksculpture.com), whos been engraving bricks for fundraisers since 1988. He offers the following advice before you embark on the campaign..

1.First look at your donor database. How likely are they to contribute to your new cause? Take nothing for granted. Dont assume that people will donate without a good strategy.

2.Think about who youre targeting. You should expect about 20% of your database to contribute. Buthow interested are they in your project? How committed are they? How are they doing financially?

4.Think about the best time to mail donation requests. Timing is everything in fundraising.

5.Think of the best way to word it. Should you play on their sympathies or emphasize that their name on a brick is a memorial will last beyond their life?

6.The project chair will make or break the project. Dont let just anyone do itget volunteers with the time and energy to put into the project.

7.How much money do you want to raise? Come into the project with an established goal.

8.Decide how much money people will donate to purchase a brick. Subtract the costs from the brick manufacturer and the difference is direct profit..

9.What about donor level appreciation? Do you want to honor different levels of donor contribution? If so.how? Some options are brick placement, size of bricks, number of words on the brick, emblems or logos on the bricks.

10.Can you get services donated? Does someone in the group know a brick mason wholl donate their time to lay the brick, build the wall or whatever? If not, the cost for hiring one must come from the raised donations.

Reading Silently Can Help Speed Reading

Filed under: Uncategorized — Tags: — admin @ 2:04 am

Watch a group of young children who are just beginning to read and youll notice one thing about almost all of them. Even if they have been instructed to silently read, most of the children will be mouthing the words they are reading. Their lips will move to pronounce the words, even though they are not speaking them aloud. The reason they do this is because as children begin to learn to read, they vocalize the sounds of the individual letters and then later on, the sounds of the words.

Although this process is helpful to the children as they are introduced to the concept of reading, its also significantly reducing the speed at which they read.

If youve ever watched a television show that featured speed readers or if youve ever known someone who could speed read, you might have noticed that their lips dont move. Thats not coincidence, its actually very significant.

When a person reads out loud or they mouth the words as they read, it takes them longer to read than someone who simply looks at the word and absorbs it. This is one of the important steps in speed reading learning to not vocalize the words either out loud or silently.

Its difficult though for a person who has always read in this manner to change. Even if they understand that the benefit of not reading aloud is that they will dramatically change their reading speed. Its a habit and its one that becomes natural over time. It can be changed though.

One thing that a person can do to change this habit and to begin on the road to speed reading is to learn not to move their mouths as they read. If you are a parent with a youngster just learning to read and you hear them reading out loud, you might suggest that they try and read to themselves. If they do and you see their lips silently moving to the words, encourage them to try and refrain from that. You can do that by giving them something to chew on, perhaps a stick of gum or a chewy candy. This will preoccupy their mouth enough that eventually the inclination to silently say the words will disappear.

Although adults are more conscious of this behavior, many still do it. They can try those same techniques, the chewing gum or a candy idea. Another idea that works well for adult is if they are alone, they can place their hand over their mouth while they read. This stops the behavior automatically. The benefit of this method is that the person becomes fully aware of when their mouth is moving along with the written words. They can stop it as it is happening. This will ultimately result in them stopping the practice.

With a little work the desire to mouth words as you read them can be stopped. When it is stopped, the rate at which you read will already be climbing. Speed reading is a skill that virtually everyone can learn; its just a matter of dropping old behaviors, such as silently mouthing words, and instead adapting new behaviors.

Regional Cuisine Of India: Tasting East India

East India, with a complex history that includes long periods of European colonization, has developed culinary traditions that reflect centuries of tradition and a variety of cultural influences. In addition to the various cultures that have been assimilated into the cuisine of the region, the geography also has influenced the development of the culinary traditions of East India, as has the climate.

Portuguese and Spanish explorers first brought the spices of India to widespread European use in the 15th and 16th centuries, inspiring European political and economic colonization of the area. The famous British East India Company and the Dutch East India Company, both established in the 17th century, were companies specifically created for the production and sale of a variety products from the region, including spices. Naturally, as the native populations interacted with the European peoples, including through forced service in their homes, a European influence came to affect local cuisines.

The coastal area ensures that seafood is an important part of the East Indian diet. The wide variety of fish is served in many ways. Naturally, the area is well known for delectable fish curries, but seafood is also served steamed and delicately spiced, fried with spices that serve to enhance rather than to mask flavors, and is used to created snacks and appetizers like pakora, served with chutneys and other dipping sauces. Because of the prominence of seafood in the cuisine, and a climate conducive to the growth of a variety of vegetables and fruits, as well as the culinary influences of past Portuguese and British colonization and the Muslim population, the food of East India tends to be of a lighter sort. Spices are used with a lighter hand, preferred cooking methods are often of the sort that enhance natural flavors and encourage the subtle blending of flavors, such a stir frying, steaming and boiling. A moist, rainy climate allows for the production of rice, which functions as a basic element of most meals.

In addition to savory fish dishes, East Indian cuisine is known throughout the world for the quality of its sweets, with many of its confections having deep roots in Hindu culture. Many religious ceremonies and celebrations have specific confections associated with them, and include ritual offerings of sweets to gods and to the poor. As with many East Indian dishes, the sweets of this region tend to be less dense, lighter, making them a bit more appealing to westerners than some of the very heavy, ultra-sweet confections of other regions in India. In addition to candies and other similar dessert style sweets, the region is known for its fine cakes, which have a distinctly European influence, as does the preference for tea as a beverage.

East Indian cuisine has a distinct character that sets it apart from the cuisines of other parts of India. With coastal areas that made seafood a staple and a climate that made a variety of fresh foods readily available, came a tendency towards letting the natural, fresh flavors of foods take center stage in the cuisine. European explorers who were attracted to Eastern shores contributed their own culinary style to the region, as did Muslim settlers, resulting in the amazing combination of cultures that created the unique flavors of East Indian cuisine.

Sleeping Bag Pads

Sleeping bag pads are not one of the things you should cut from your list. Backpackers want to reduce their weight, but not even ultralight backpackers want to reduce their comfort. Still, who wants to carry those monstrous old inflatables down the trail? Try some of these lightweight options instead.

Make four-ounce sleeping bag pads, and sometimes carry two of them. Use the plain blue closed-cell foam pads available from any backpacking supplier. They are made larger than necessary, usually 24 by 72 inches. Just cut them down to a four-ounce size that fits your torso.

It should reach from your shoulders to your hips. You may want to cut the width a little at a time, testing for comfort as you go. The pad should be as small as you can make it, while still big enough to insulate your torso from the ground. A pillow of spare clothes can be used for your head, and your legs can be on your empty pack to insulate them.

Sleeping Bag Pads For Lightweight Fanatics

To make it really light, cut pieces out of the pad. Small holes in the pad don’t seem to make it less comfortable. If you cut out a hundred little pieces of foam, you save an ounce and join the ranks of the fanatical ultralight backpackers.

Want to go even lighter? Leave the pad behind and try sleeping where the ground is soft. You can also pile up leaves or dry grass to sleep on. Do this where it won’t harm the enviroment, and scatter the leaves in the morning so they don’t kill the vegetation they’re on. For fifteen minutes of work each night collecting materials, you can leave the sleeping pad home and actually be more comfortable. A thick pile of dried grass – now that’s a nice camping mattress.

More Luxurious Sleeping Bag Pads

Want more cushioning? Inflatable sleeping pads are no longer out of the question for lightweight backpacking. The Big Agnes Air Core Pad from REI is a 3/4 length pad that weighs just 16 ounces and is an incredible 2 1/2″ thick! If you’ve slept with Big Agnes, let me know how she is.

You can also find a few self-inflating pads that are reasonably light. The old Thermarest I sometimes use is actually only 21 ounces, but both Thermarest and others now have self-inflating sleeping pads that are under a pound. That’s a lot of comfort for such lightweight sleeping bag pads.

Use What You Know Best To Excel In Business

With energy prices going up and the job market staying flat, a great many of us are thinking about starting some kind of business to earn some extra income.

You’re probably also thinking in the back of your mind that your business could take off, make a lot of money, and you could say good-bye to your boss, commuting, and spending so much time away from home.

Good for you! I KNOW you can do it and here’s why.

Usually when people start thinking of going into business for themselves, they concentrate on all the things they DON’T already know. They try to learn more about computers, take a class at the community school, read reports online, and talk to others who have worked in the business.

Those things are good, but what will really help you excel in business are things you ALREADY have and know how to do well.

* Do you show up for work on time day after day? That’s DISCIPLINE. It’s the one must-have factor that separates the go-getters from the tire kickers. You have to be able to set your sights on something, know what you believe in, and not give up easily. You have to show up and do your job day after day until the cash starts rolling in. I know–that’s common sense. But you would be surprised at how many people fail at business simply because they didn’t give it a little discipline.

* Sell what you LIKE and KNOW. People like to buy from business owners who not only know a lot about the product or service, but are also ENTHUSIASTIC about it. It really helps if you know and like what you’re selling. If you have a hobby, base your business around some aspect of that. One guy I know loves to play the guitar, so now he makes a fine income selling used guitars on eBay. I spent many years in body building and fitness. Now I sell a popular line of health and wellness products. If somebody wants to know why these products work, I tell them, and I tell them with enthusiasm. It works remarkably well.

* Team up with others. It’s really beneficial to have help from somebody who has been in the business a while. They can save you countless hours by showing you the pitfalls of the industry. They can also greatly speed up your progress by showing you what works. But most importantly, a mentor can give you encouragement when your enthusiasm and discipline is waning. We all have those days when we get a little discouraged. An email or phone call from a mentor can get you back on track fast. And that’s what it takes to succeed.

Consider these three important ideas before going into business. Then know that you CAN succeed. Creating your own business can be the best, most exciting thing you will ever do for yourself or your family.

Backup Tape Usage and Replacement Schedule

Backup Tape Usage and Replacement ScheduleDuring the tape backup process, the tape backup media is moved across read/write heads, alignment rollers and drive rollers. Each pass through the tape drive wears away a small amount of the oxide coating used to store the data. A worn tape may backup and verify without error only to fail when a file needs to be restored. The trick is to maximize the use of the tape without allowing it to wear out.

Our recommended backup tape usage and replacement schedule is derived from input from hundreds of users, tape and drive manufacturers’ recommended replacement schedules, and years and years of monitoring tape life and backup integrity.

In short..It works.

The schedule includes, at any time, 12 tapes. The tapes are labeled as follows:

1) Monday 5) Friday 1 9) Quarter 1

2) Tuesday 6) Friday 2 10) Quarter 2

3) Wednesday 7) Friday 3 11) Quarter 3

4) Thursday 8) Friday 4 12) Quarter 4

The Monday through Thursday tapes are used as expected. On Fridays, one of 4 tapes is used. The Friday 1,2,3 and 4 tapes are used consecutively so that you always have a backup more than 1 week old. We have witnessed situations where a virus has infected a network, and corrupted files. Only going back to a pre-infection backup allows rebuilding of such files, and it often takes a few days to detect or identify such infections.

The quarter 1,2,3 and 4 tapes are used at the end of each of your fiscal quarters. These tapes are usually tapes close to the end of their service life. This will be the last use for this tape.

This rotation schedule requires purchasing four new tapes each year. At the time of purchase, the tapes are rotated into different roles. Each Friday tape is set aside awaiting a quarterly backup role. Monday to Thursday tapes are advanced to Friday 1, 2, 3, and 4 roles. 4 new tapes are introduced into the Monday – Thursday roles.

This schedule involves using each tape 66 times. We have found this to be a reasonable life expectancy for most backup tapes. The schedule gives you several levels of protection should a loss or corruption occur.

Keep in mind the tapes need to be kept warm and dry and at least the weekly and quarterly tapes off site.
